God Makes Things Grow

Do you ever feel the burden that an outcome is solely on your shoulders? Maybe you feel like someone’s salvation is dependent on you and your lifestyle. Have you faced struggles in your life that caused you to believe a lie that you don’t deserve something better because you didn’t work hard enough?

I am encouraged when I read in 1 Corinthians 3, where Paul writes in his letter to the Corinthians that he and Apollos are “Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task.  I (Paul) planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:5-7)

This scripture tells us that OUR works can’t force an outcome. So get free of that right now!

The planting and watering is necessary, but what’s more important is that God brings actual growth.

What does all this mean in a practical sense?

We should share the Word and create relationships with others and allow them to witness our walk with Jesus. It is important that we extend an invitation to church or bring someone along to a Small Group. It's so sweet to invite a friend to coffee and dig in the Word together. The invitation and relationships are key to non-believers knowing The Lord and building up the church like Paul and Apollos did. But what makes all the difference and brings actual heart change is when someone experiences His Spirit. That’s when the seed begins to grow.

Application: Ask The Lord to reveal who you should be tending to. Is there someone in your life that you should invite to church or spend time with? Here’s a biggie - do you need to spend more time tending to your own relationship with Christ? Submit all these things in prayer.

Prayer: Lord, remind us that we can’t make anything happen without You but that You are All-Powerful and can make things happen without us. Let us trust in Your plans for our life and over the lives of our loved ones. Remind us that we cannot be a witness without tending to our own relationship with You. Reveal to us those that we should be a witness to. May we be a people that continues to build up Your church.
